THE LAW ETHICS, WATER GARDENS AND THE ENVIRONMENT CHECK WITH YOUR LOCAL COUNCIL AS TO LEGAL POND DEPTHS, FENCING REQUIREMENTS, ETC. EACH STATE HAS DIFFERENT REGULATIONS COVERING AQUATIC PLANTS AND IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO COMPLY WITH THOSE APPLICABLE IN YOUR STATE. Water gardens on the whole are environmentally friendly and safe requiring less water than many types of conventional gardens with virtually no fertilisers, pesticides or weedicides. The disposal of unwanted or surplus plants, fish or pond “animals” is the area which requires care and education. DO NOT DISPOSE OF SURPLUS PLANTS OR WATER “ANIMALS” IN WATER COURSES, SWAMPS OR LAND FILLS. DO NOT TAKE PLANTS TO GREEN RECYCLING DEPOTS. DO NOT PUT INTO GARDEN MULCHER - COMPOSTING IS THE BEST METHOD FOR PLANT DISPOSAL. MOST PET SHOPS WILL ACCEPT SURPLUS GOLD FISH, ETC.
